Women's Soccer Alumna Susan Byrne Partakes In Irish National Team Camp

QUEENS, N.Y. (July 1, 2009) – St. John's women's soccer alumna Susan Byrne was one of 20 players selected to participate in the Republic of Ireland's 10-week training camp held in Indiana June 18-Aug. 30.  
St. John'sByrne and her team will play a number of friendly games against top professional and college teams in the United States, including Notre Dame, Louisville, the Chicago Red Stars and the Los Angeles Sol. The "Girls In Green" will also face Argentina, the second-ranked team in South America. Ireland kicked off its 10-week USA trip with a 2-1 win over its host team FC Indiana on June 24.
 
A four-year starter for the Red Storm from 2004-07, Byrne was a top defender and closed out her senior campaign by helping STJ post eight shutouts, including one over then-No. 18 Connecticut, 1-0, on Oct. 26, 2007. She helped the team set school records with six BIG EAST victories and eight home wins. The Dublin, Ireland, native recorded three goals and two assists during her career.
