Leaverton Named to WPSL Team of the Week for Third Time This Year |

www.RedStormSports.com QUEENS, N.Y. (July 2, 2009) – St. John's women's soccer player Jen Leaverton has been named to the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Team of the Week for the third time this year, as announced by the organization.
Playing for the Bay State Selects out of Easton, Mass., Leaverton led the team with three goals in a key 4-2 win over New York A.C. on June 28. The rising STJ sophomore scored all her goals outside the 20-yard box, and two additional shots just missed and hit the crossbar. Leaverton had a breakout rookie campaign for the Red Storm in 2008. She led the team with three goals, two were game winners, and added an assist to tie for the lead with seven points. She was the only freshman to see action in all 19 contests for the Red Storm last season, and finished the year with 29 shots and a team-best 16 shots on goal. A Mansfield, Mass., native, Leaverton scored the game-winning goal in 1-0 victory over Towson on Aug. 29. She scored two goals in BIG EAST action, tallying the winner in a 1-0 victory over USF on Oct. 12 and scoring the equalizer in 1-1 tie with UConn on Oct. 26.
