Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra’s Women’s Basketball program’s heralded incoming recruiting class of Candace Bond (Fort Washington, MD), Shante Evans (West Chester, PA) and Lindsey Watson (Orlando, FL) has been ranked as the 41st best recruiting class in the nation according to Chris Hansen of ESPN/HoopGurlz.

Hofstra Pride“I am thrilled that our recruiting class was recognized so highly by ESPN/HoopGurlz” commented Hofstra University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey. “I would like to thank my staff, especially the work of Danielle Santos, for their efforts in recruiting such top student-athletes to Hofstra University. We know that each student-athlete was recruited individually and now the task will be to get all the players on the same page.”

Fortified by the signing of Evans, who was ranked 54th in the ESPNU 100 – Class of 2009, Hofstra had the second-highest ranked recruiting class of any non-BCS school (Middle Tennessee State #31) and was nine spots better than the next Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) school on the list (James Madison #50)

The trio of freshmen will join the nine returnees as Hofstra looks to build upon its 16-win season in 2008-09. Led by All-CAA performer Jess Fuller and CAA Rookie of the Year Joelle Connelly, the 2009-10 season will get underway on Monday, November 16 when Hofstra hosts Buffalo at 7 p.m.
