Steve Lavin’s team will be put to the test next season as the Red Storm’s Big East schedule was announced.
The Storm will host Georgetown, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Rutgers, University of South Florida and DePaul either on campus at the Carnesecca Arena or in New York City at Madison Square Garden.
The schedule on the road for the Storm will be quite challenging as they will travel to Villanova, Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Marquette, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Providence and Seton Hall.
“Year-in and year-out, the BIG EAST Conference has consistently proven to be among the most competitive leagues in college basketball,” said St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin. “In addition to our rugged BIG EAST schedule, we are looking forward to playing an extremely challenging non-conference slate, highlighted by matchups against defending national champion Duke and Pac-10 power UCLA.”
The Red Storm will feature a very talented and experienced team this coming season. D.J. Kennedy who led the team in scoring (15.1), rebounding (6.1) and assists (102) will headline coach Lavin’s team which return most of last year’s roster. With complimenting players such as Justin Burrell, Malik Boothe, Sean Evans, Dwight Hardy, Malik Stith and Paris Horne, the Storm will be expected to make quite an impact within the Big East Conference.
In 2010-11, the BIG EAST will once again play an 18-game conference schedule, in which teams face 12 opponents once and three teams twice. It will mark the fourth year of the 18-game schedule, which began for the 2007-08 season. All 144 regular-season conference games will once again be televised, either by CBS Sports, the ESPN family of networks or ESPN Regional Television.
The complete St. John's men's basketball schedule, with non-conference opponents, dates, times and television information will be released with the rest of the BIG EAST conference basketball schedules at a later date this fall. The complete non-conference schedule will be released later in the summer.
